Coherent optics
High-speed coherent transmission, advanced modulation formats, and the signal-processing challenges inside modern optical links.
Engineering professional and researcher
I am Mahmood Abu Romoh, PhD. My work spans digital signal processing, photonics, and the digital converters that enable faster coherent communication systems.
About me
I am an engineering professional at Marvell Technology in Ottawa, Canada, with a strong foundation in mathematics and physics and research experience in high-speed optical communications.
I earned my PhD from Aston University through the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies. My doctoral work investigated the DSP aspects of coherent optical systems, particularly how ADC and DAC limitations can be addressed to support higher modulation formats and baud rates.
Technical focus
High-speed coherent transmission, advanced modulation formats, and the signal-processing challenges inside modern optical links.
Understanding and compensating for ADC and DAC resolution, nonlinearity, and other practical transceiver limitations.
Applying neural-network techniques to pre-distortion and compensation problems in optical communication systems.
